conversion from 5 speed - 5speed w/ overdrive

i was jus wondering if anyone has had experience with converting a 5 speed standard to a 5 speed with overdrive or 6 speed. can i use the same transmission case just adding the link and the gear or do i have to replace the whole thing? any advice is appreciated.

So he basically wants to make a 5speed a 6 speed which means he's going to need a different transmission

5Th is the O/D in the Ranger. A 6 speed would have to be a different transmission all together. No easy task depending on the motor, but people have done it.
