Explorer front diff ??

like it says,,

i have an Explorer front diff that is geared for bigger tires than stock,,
was wondering if it could be swapped into the front of my 08 Ranger when i do a Superlift with coilover swap ???

i have a 96 explorer with the full Superlift and an RCd coilover conversion kit with Fox coilovers ,the body is shot, so i'm thinking of putting it on the 08 Ranger,,

Explorers used two different axles in the early years. One type used from 1995-1996 featured a vacuum and electronically controlled axle disconnect on the passenger side, which you can easily distinguish because it has a giant square "box" cast into the passenger side axle tube. There should be vacuum lines and what not leading to it.

The other type used from 97-01 is the same as what you have in your Ranger.

Are you planning on re-gearing the rear axle to match the new front axle?

i have an 8.8 explorer axle with the spring perches for the soa, so it fits under the ranger spring not over,, it's already geared, same as the front diff,,

the one i have is vacuum yes, i will make a vacuum switch so that it will lock up,

just saw that the axles for the ranger could be a bit different, looks like the one side goes all the way into the carrier, the explorers fit in what is like a socket almost,,

I don't know anything about those early Explorer axles. I know they'll bolt in, but you may need to use the Explorer CV shafts to make it work.

Since you have a parts Explorer, this swap will probably be a little bit easier for you.
