My transmission, 4R44E, is taking a really long time to go into gear. I have read that a shift kit will fix this, but I also saw that I should replace the EPC (pressure control solenoid) while im at it because it is a wear and tear part. I read that there are two types for the same transmission depending on the number. I looked it up and it said that the red band one is for 97 and newer vehicles. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I want to get this all fixed as soon as possible.

Also does anyone recommend a certain shift kit? I have read that TransGo makes a kit. Are there others?

The epc is 97 and newer. I have never seen it listed any other way so i can only assume its correct. Also Superior makes a kit.

As far as the delay. From what i have read its a ford tolerance issue with valve body parts. I really do not know which parts. but my "rebuild with shift kit" off ebay does it really bad. I need to do the same things you are.

 

i need to have some tranny work done......shift kit is high on my list....

Does anyone know a good place to get the TransGo kit? I'm pretty sure I'm going with that one.

 

If you read through the first couple pages of that link that Blhde posted it will tell you that the ford fix is not necessarily as affective as the others. They all sort of fix the problem in slightly different ways.

 

I paid about 35 shipped for my first trans go kit from txchange. Bulkpart seems to have good prices too.

Well i put the trans go in as well as a new epc and it did nothing to fix the problem. It shifts amazing once its in gear, but man is it difficult to get into gear.

It is now at for and they told me there is no line pressure and it is costing over $500 just to take the transmission apart to see what the problem is.

 

That leaves the server seal or spring issue like 04 EDGE said.

How long is they delay?

 

The delay can be over 30 seconds. The only way I can get it in gear is dropping it in 2nd and reving it until it gets enough pressure to move.

Well I wish I had seen that before.

 

When I took the valvebody out it already had the separator plate with the bonded gaskets because the valvebody has been replaced already. But I did notice that it was not the updated separator plate because there was still a hole for the rivet that comes with the TransGo kit.
