Driveshaft and antitheft ?

Ok so I broke a driveshaft (long story) and was removing it. Long story short Im not able to disconnect it in the rear and was going to drive it with the front only since I have 4x4 but cant get the darn thing to start. The anti theft is blinking when I try to start it.. disconnected the battery but same deal.. Any ideas guys?

i agree.

that's what my ranger did, when the keys were somehow cleared...

also, if you can't get your rear driveshaft off, how do you plan to only drive on the front one?

if your rear driveshaft is gone, then you could (i wouldn't recommend for a long period of time, or any sort of speed), drive on the front axle, but how do you imagine you'll only drive w/ the front?

your truck is a 4x4. not an optional front wheel drive.

the rear driveshaft is still going to be getting spun, if you go into 4x4.

i took my truck to the dealership, since it was under warranty.

i can't remember, but i think they replaced the whole PATS system, to later find out it was my MAF or something... lol

so, oops. I forgot. It wasn't my PATS.

Have you tried your other PATS key? If it doesn't work either, I think you will have to get it towed to a Ford dealer or get a locksmith to reprogram the Central Security Module to accept the keys. You cannot do the CSM yourself unless you already have two working keys.

Here's what the 2002 shop manual gives as possible causes. Good luck!

Mechanical:

Large metallic objects, a second ignition key on the same key ring as the PATS ignition key or electronic devices on the key chain that can be use to purchase gasoline or similar items

Ignition lock cylinder

Defective PATS key

Use of a non-PATS key

More than one PATS key on key chain

Electrical:

Fuse 19 (dash fuse box)
Fuse 28 (dash fuse box)

Defective PATS transceiver module

Defective PCM

Defective Ignition Switch

Loose/corroded terminals

I'm hoping for a simple problem like a popped fuse. Maybe something electrical got damaged if/when the D/S was flailing around under the truck. (?)

That's probably a good thing to check. I believe that he is describing a problem with PATS because of the flashing theft light. I don't think that the fuel shut-off switch can do that but I don't know for sure.

Bob, mine showed every sign it was PATS, that was the problem. Blinking Anti-Theft, etc...

The dealership replaced my PATS stuff(sorry, i don't actually know what all is involved), got me new keys, and ended up replacing my whole PCM... and the truck still wouldn't do anything.

Then, they ended up replacing the MAF, and ta-da, it worked.

They had the truck almost 2 weeks.

I dont even know exacly what I did to fix it but I just jiggles a bunch of wires (pretty much all wires on the truck!) and finally started her up and took'er for a test drive. New driveshaft seems to be working well and no starting problems since. Thanks you to everyone who replied to help me, very much apreciated.
