'F'-in blinkin O/D light!!!

I have a '98 XLT with the 2.5L and a 4 speed auto tranny. That damn O/D OFF light in the bottom right corner of the instrument cluster starts blinkin after about 10 miles of driving. WTF is goin on with it. The chilton book dont say $#!+ about it, the tards at autozone say they cant read the tranny error codes. I have changed the fluid and filter in the tranny twice in a month. Im stuck, Its drives good, shifts good and doesnt shimmy or chatter. What could be the problem fellas????

Dealer will pull the codes, maybe a trans shop.

Usually the lights flash for slipping. Maybe its got a bad speed sensor in it.

Yep!! Slipping or torque converter not locking up. It goes into a safe mode after a few miles and increases pressure to make it shift harder. If you shut it off it will reset till the next time it detects the problem againm. sometimes getting it flushed and new additives put in helps. if not then sensors or shift kit would be next.

It could be any one or several transmission trouble codes out of many. Until you get the code(s) read, it is all blind and probably expensive guesswork.

A transmission shop will have a tool that can read tranny codes, so will many independent general repair shops. Of course, any Ford dealer can read them too.

Ended up being a faulty wire in line with the speed sensor as well as some little shifter position switch thingy on the side of the tranny. cost me like 200 to have it fixed. now i just need to have my insrument panel lamps replaced and im a happy camper...
