Front Wheels Are Locked

Let me hear your thoughts on this!

I have a 2007 Ranger FX4, bought it new, only has 30,000 miles. Got in it today and put it in drive and it won't move. Rear wheels will spin. Put in reverse, same won't move. I moved the selector switch from 2 to 4H and the indicator light does not come on, but they all come on when the key is turned on. Had it out running around a few days ago, used the 4wd about 2 weeks ago and had no problem.

That is weird. I guess you need to find out if its the brakes, or the frt diff. hasnt had recent work done to the brakes or diff I take it. It it freezing out? Did you run it though any deep water? Is it legally parked, doesnt have a boot on it?j/k.

No work has been performed on it, Just parked it in my drive way. The only thing I noticed was when the selector switch was turned to 4H their was no clicking and 4H did not light up on the dash. If the CM went bad could that have locked up the front end?

no...the front axles in our trucks are live axles...which means they turn all the time...there is no disconnect for the front axle...the only thing your controlling by the selector switch is the t-case

With that in mind, we have had alot of rain. So I inspected the rotors and noticed alot of rust. So I kept going from reverse and forward real easy and she worked loose. So I took it around the block. Before parking it again I tried the selector switch and it still will not engage the 4x4. So I'm thinking maybe a wire came loose from the CM or maybe it went bad. Would you happen to know where it is located?

No, when the key is turned they all come on in the instrument panel. but will not come on when selector switch is turned to 4H. There is no flashing!

check the fuses if you didnt already do so...if the CM goes bad or the tcase is stuck between shifts the lights will flash

all fuses checked good, I just didn't know where the cm was located just to make sure the wires never came loose

another thought...this problem might be covered under the 5yr/60K powertrain warranty...its worth investigating
