hi i just bought an 01 ranger xlt ext cab but it needs few things 1 is o/d is blinking my buddy at ford pulled code p0735 5th gear slipping i guess from what code is saying does this deff mean need new/rebuild tranny or could it be something else.

also 4x4 doesnt light up on switch doesnt feel like its working at all guy i bought it from said theres a wire un hooked or something underneath anyone have any ideas what wires he might be talking about or and ideas in general of were to start looking for problem thanks

Sorry for the bad luck. I don't know much about the automatics but hopefully someone can help out.
The 4x4 system is somewhat notorious for stuff like that. I don't know why anything would be disconnected, but there is an electric motor on the back of the transfer case, may want to crawl under there and have a look if anything is unplugged anywhere.
Search for 4x4 and you should find lots of threads about diagnosing/fixing 4x4 issues.

me and machanic tok it for drive on highway and it doesnt shift into o/d doing 65 its at 3k rpm so does it mean deff bad tranny or could it be something else before i have to pull tranny

ya usally if the o/d light is blinking, time for a good tranny overhaul. might wanna look at the wires n everthing on the tcase, also i wanna say its the shift motor on the tranny that goes out to.. i think thats what its called.. easiest way to check if ur 4x4 is working... be on pavment.. put it in 4hi drive slowly n try to turn.. if its hard to turn.. then its workin.. if not.. then obviously its not working

1300. i think with problems its a good deal.im going to go check it out some more my machanic said take tranny pan off see if some gasket inside next to valve body has blown out or something let you guys know if anything comes up it cant be any thing electrical with tranny.

 

if i do over haul it any body know if that will fix it or will there be bad parts inside thats specific for overdrive broken parts on top of the rebuild kit. any body know were to get a good rebuild kit from at a decent price my machanic at ford rebuilds trannys .

 

will a 5r55e work with no modifications
