I have a 1993 ranger with the 4L and a manual transmission. The trans went out a while back and I have found a few transmissions that have the same number of bolts on the bell housing and the starter is on the same side but I have been told that it makes a difference if it is a mazda or a ford. How in the world do I tell the difference? Will they interchange??? Please help.

 

all rangers from 93+ use a mazda manual trans...as long as its a M5OD-R1 from another 4.0 you'll be fine

 

Awesome, thanks!! What about and explorer? A junkyard has one nearby from a exploder and it looks real similar.

 

Expo manuals are rare, it must be a 2 door. With the 4.0 they still use the 5-speed M5OD-R1 manual.
