Well then it's probably worn out. My truck will spin both tires when i go straight but it will spin one if I go around a corner and mash it.

Chock your front tires, leave tranny in neutral and jack up one rear tire. Put a torque wrench on one of your lug nuts on the raised tire and see how many ft-lb's it takes to overcome the clutches and start to turn the tire.

Should be in the higher twenties.

Did you change your axle fluid recently and forget to add the friction modifier?

Kelly the friction modifier would make it more slippery, thus making it not work...it is either worn cluthes or too much modifier.

Crunchy is right about how to check a LS.

I'm not sure if you have a 8.8 in your ranger? But.. they make several different diff rebuild kits. You can do this yourself with regular hand tools. It's not that hard. Do it yourself for under a $100 easily.

+12 on the wearage.

If you even have the ls in there....ususally the clutches start wearing out at like 60k anyway.

so... are you saying it feels like you have a locker, or a spool, and it won't slip on turns? I mean why else would you compare it to a welded diff, right?

so your problem is reverse of having a worn out ls? meaning....it's staying 'locked'? acting as though it's a spool? havn't heard of that issue ever with an LS. when they be old they act like an open dif....not reverse.

is this is recent problem? did you just get the truck? maybe it's a newly installed ls that's very tight?

There is a Ford TSB on L/S tire chatter on turns (not sure Its for the Ranger, but more common on IRS Explorers), where they are set tight from factory, or they somehow get "tight"
A new clutch pack, and soaking the pack in friction modifier for an hour. Then reinstalling/filling to spec is Ford's warranty fix.
You can always try to refill it first, maybe there is no friction modifier in it?
