ok, so saturday night, i had the brilliant idea to go night wheelin with a bunch of drunkies lol

ANYWHO, i snapped a CV shaft, and lost a hub


is it alright if i drive around like that until i get the money to get a new set of AVM hubs? or do i need to throw my stock hubs back on?
The problem with that is i think i modified them to be always locked.. and between that being the side with the broken CV shaft, and having a locker.. i dont want it spinning..

who thinks what?

i dont see why you cant drive around like that until you get the parts. just keep an eye on it

 

the axle nut? lol

the hub just snaps on.. no bolts or screws.. its pretty gay, and probably why i lost it..

 

this is the key. on a PVH truck im not sure what retains the CV shaft in the hub, but sumthin needs to be there to keep the preload on the hub bearing. im sure its not JUS the hubs, dont they jus snap on?

you should have an axle nut i would think but i never messed with pvh before

 

yea good point, popped into my head haha, i remember someone saying something about a snap ring? i can call the shop that installed my lift tomorrow and ask them how it went on..

but theres o pressure from the hub onto the axle.. that i know of, i mean it was plastic clips holding it on...

 

been a loooooooong time since ive seen inside a PVH hub truck. with a properly installed snap ring on the axle shaft, i would give you a thumbs-up to drive w/o the hub.

 

there is indeed a snap ring holding it in.

i have put a little over 100 miles on it this way so far, nothing has flown off or blown up

 

if the snap ring is still there i would think you are fine.

 

looks like i need to invest in a beefier set of snap ring pliers before i replace anything.. at least i don't have to worry about axle nuts and tightening them to a specific torque i THINK lol.. who knows

and for good measures i think im going to pick up a driver side shaft too, its probably not too far behind

 

Matt, just so you know, you actually aren't going to have any problems running it like that EXCEPT if you get off camber so far that your suspension articulates enough for the CV to slide out, I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in the little snap ring, but as long as you are babieing (sp?) it I think you will be ok. Isn't your RCD in the front strapped anyway which would be a good thing in this case.

 

You need to at least get a cap on that hub.Keep the dirt/water out of those wheel bearings.

 

now u tell me after i have been driving around in the rain.. haha

but know there has been water in there...


as for keeping the CV shaft in.. the trucks only seeing pavement until its fixed.. its not very capable in 3(2?)wd i have noticed

i dont really have much faith in the hubs keeping th CV in.. like i said, they are held on my little plastic clips
