Manual hub conversion on the '03 LII
-wo0t-!!!!!
Got a shipping confirmation on the avm's and the hub/bearing assemblies. Just got payment off to Jason for the axle shafts.
I can't wait!
I think I'm gonna overhaul the whole front end while I'm at it. Have my mechanic buddy do the Precision 4.56's and Aussie Locker install whilst I tackle the manual hub conversion. Gonna get a hole drilled and tapped so I can have a easy access drain plug on the front pig as well. I'm so siked!!!!
Hopefully I can get the rear end done very soon after so I can test it out =]
BTW, here's what's covering my ***....no pun intended.... http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/...ver-p-180.html

nah if you get the drain plug why not use it!
im just talking about the fill plug. idk maybe it wont make much difference. but to me the more oil the better. need to make sure it gets out to them wheel bearings.

The one I posted was ten dollars more and I could have a drain AND fill plug with both plugs recessed instead of exposed.
Why take off the whole damn cover and have to re-gasket when you could just drain and fill.
BTW, the stock rear diff fill is f*ing ghey! It's in the most cumbersome spot.

Sure.
L2EN swapped in the hubs gears and cover, all primo top of the line crap, that cost him a boatload.
Then thru either his or a companies fault, something simple, like a bolt, was improperly attached and fluid drained.
This led to things getting majorly FUBAR'd and something on his truck blew up.
It then went to the dealership where he got to fight them about waranty.
I can't think up anything else. His sister is kinda good looking but apparently bat**** crazy

Not sure if you actually got to this project yet or not.. but... there is one part you are missing. There are a pair of snap rings that you need. One goes on each axle shaft and holds it in the bearing/hub assembly. With the axle in and the hub off you snap it on inside. I'm sure somebody here or Ford can get you an exploded view to see where it is. That said I'm not real convinced its a necessary part... but it is in there..

I think I'm gonna buy some new shafts/joints and use the ones I got from you as spares. After the locker is in there I'm sure I'm gonna need some spares. When I order the new ones, I'll look into the snap rings. Thanks for the heads up though!
I found this thread when I did a search for manual hub conversion! I was just wondering if there was any new input on the subject,I do have the live-axle in my 2000 since it was built after the change over but Im doing a rebuild from the axles out on account of bad CVs and bearings. And I think manual hubs would be just cool !!!! Theres no mention of the knuckles in this thread and thats my main question,Will mine fit? Thanks for any help.

Its all in this thread. Your truck is the same as the OP's.
Still waiting for the AVM hubs but everything else went in like it was born there!
This is some pretty sexy stuff!!!

I also put in new a-arms(for the bushings and ball joints), if I could just get the hubs and snap rings I could drive this thing!!!!
Also, this axle shaft did not come with my new axle assemblies.

Any one know where to find some cheap stocker hubs to throw in til my AVMs get here?
