Manual tranny fluid

This might be a dumb question, but what type of fluid is in a manual transmission? Also, what is used in the differential.
Thanks

ATF in the tranny and 80W-90 in the axle. If you have a l/s then you also need a bottle of friction modifier.

And how do you drain the tranny? I see two plugs, one on bottom one on side near top. Just open top and then bottom and let drain? I assume i need a pump to fill in the top hole?

common sense says bottom to drain. Fill it til it dribbles out the top hole. I've never used a pump for the trans.

But it seems like there is no room to pour fluid in the top hole. How did you get it in?

Ya, I forgot that you can put ATF in. I need to check mine this weekend when I change my oil. Thanks Bernard for starting the thread to remind me.

I used a high capacity syringe. Took forever though. 500 cc's at a time sucks.
I am sure there is a How To, or atleast I remember there was a thread with pics.
