Motor interchange question

I have a 06 Ranger with a 2.3 it has a dead hole and i've found a 2002 motor i can get resonable. I know they are both the duratec 2.3 DOHC motor but will it work in a 06 model. one salvage yard said 04-06 will work. Does anyone know if the 02 is basically the same motor. this one has 175K miles on it and has no compression on #4 cyl. thanks in advance.

im not sure if i can be any help here...dont take my word...but im pretty sure you should be able to swap..maybe the ecu might be different tho? if they're both dohc it shouldnt be an issue...

i would look into going to 3.0 or even 4L though..might as well do it now

Personally I would stay away from junk yard motors. Try Craigslist first. You would probably find a better deal there anyway.
