1994 Ranger motor interchange
1994 Ranger motor interchange
Have a 1994 ranger 2.3l sohc 4x2 mt. Can anyone tell me what yr motors will interchange. Mine has egr, will a motor without egr work? im sure check engine light would come on but any other issues?
Any 2.3l lima engine will work, '89 to '97 would be best bet
It would be best to swap current intake and exhaust to new motor so EGR and all sensors will be the same, no changes in wiring needed.
Motor without EGR may need anti-knock sensor, it was used for a few years, so would require a computer change to prevent pinging/knocking.
But the engine itself is the same, so with your intake and exhaust it would be fine.
If your goal is to get a lower mile engine in your truck then the long block swap gets you there, using all your current accessories and intake/exhaust just makes things much simpler.

Thanks. The reason i am asking is because my motor seized up sitting in the yard, we have soaked cylinders in both penetrating lube and diesel and could not get motor to break free. Bought this truck cheap and debating if i wanna put motor in it or sell it as is.
Put it in gear and drag it, lol.
Small pick-ups hold there value in most areas, even 4x2, they drop to a certain value point and just stay there no matter how old or how many miles they have, it is a purpose vehicle not just a driver
I would look at local prices and then decide if it is worth it.
Also check 2.3l engine prices at local wreckers.
It reads like all the "outside stuff" on the engine is probably fine, so swap wouldn't be too involved.

What about a V-8 ?
2WD would be nice, auto or manual, easy bolt in with kit and plenty of power.
I know it isn't a 2.3 and my '95 with 2.3 was a nice truck AND to some it might lose some value but it would be nice !

newbe here just looking around to see what I can find on motor swaps my boy has 96 swaping to 93 engine with less miles bought whole 93 truck $300 been looking at extra frame thinking how could be to set 351 in it?just an idea !
Also, a 351, IMHO, is overkill; I know the 302W or 5.0L have been done a lot but it is by far the easiest and best swap with all the power a Ranger can handle.
