My CV is talking to me

Ok for the last couple of days I keep hearing this whistling noise and thought is was in the cab. Nope so then I thought it was around my tire, so I figured a rock was stuck in there so I clean around the brakes, nope. Then I figure out it is coming from the passenger tire. So I take the tire off and start cleaning that side.

After I spin the wheel I realize it is where the cv and axle shaft come together. Why would this start squealing? I gave it a little wd40 but it still squeals.

Would it squeal there if my diff fluid is getting low? I was going to change it over the thanksgiving holidays anyways.

Any ideas?

Check your diff fluid. If it's low, fill it up and try to duplicate the noise. If it is ok, then I would take the CV out and inspect the axle and CV.

it is not actually the boot. You have your axle shaft that goes down the passenger side that is stationary then the cv that starts spinning. Right where it starts spinning is where the noise comes from.

I'm leaving for houston now so I'll take pictures if you don't get what I'm saying sunday.

yeah it is high pitched like a whistle, and only makes the noise from 0 to about 40. After nothing until I slow down.

So if it is a seal, is it ok if I drive it home (6 hours)?

change your front diff fluid and see if that helps. I was driving on rough dirt roads and think that knocked out something that was stuck somewhere.
