That 200 mile trip I had no passing gear which is just an adjustment. It was like driving a manual that was stuck in 5th gear when going up a hill. lol. I'd lose 10 mph going up.
The interior is MUCH quieter now. I can hear myself think.
A couple of weeks should answer it.
Thats here I errored. The adapter to install the 1354 case was $500. A little forward thinking and that $500 would have gone to a different transfer case altogether. I would imagine there are plenty of TC's that fit a 700r4 or can be adapted to it.

i bet that hurt the wallet and rear end in one shot......i am sure there are some cheaper ways to go with a t-case.....there would almost have to be since a lot of Jeepers put in a Chevy 350 w/a 700r4 in their Jeeps......and since Jeeps t-cases drop the same way a Rangers t-case does, you would think.....

there is a guy on ORR running gear oil in his manual tranny to quiet it down, i had no idea they were so noisy.

what would a 1982 4wd bronco (full sized square body) have as a transfer case?
I went and looked at my brothers storage spot (personal wrecking yard). he has:
1967 Mustang convertible w/289
1957 Ranchero
1970's (round body) full size ford single cab step side
1982 full size truck
1982 ford bronco as stated.
Never new he had that many laying around. lol. If I can get done with my current projects that bronco would be nice to tinker with.

I drove about 120 miles today. All is good for now. The only issue is when overdrive kicks in, it won't drop gears to pass or go up a hill. This happened last time so it wasn't new, except this time I dropped it into third and it restored the power going up the hill. The way the shifter handle is, it's no different than the manual I had. I drive around with my hand on the shifter so bumping in and out of OD is not a problem.
Tranny temps peak at 180 but was 10-15 degrees lower most of the time.

Not sure what the temp should be. 180 was peak- like sitting and idling. Water temp was 190 - 200 if that makes a difference.
OD? I would guess either the governor springs or something to do with the torque convertor lock up. I'll call the guy that I bought it from and get his opinion. I'm not sure how the lock up works to be honest with you. The tranny guy said it was hydraulic and nothing needed to be done. Ranger72 on RPS has a switch to manually turn his on and off.

e-fan on the radiator and a seprate e-fan on the tranny cooler.
The tranny cooler is ignition "on" with no temp switch at the moment. It was a quickie install.

180 is pretty low for an auto temp actually, they normally run a bit higher than the temp of the engine which is why the cooler in the radiator actually works decently for them. generally around 230 or so for the tranny is pretty normal during hard running. I thought most of the 700R4s used a kick down cable or it was a function of the TV cable...
Two days of driving with the new tranny. Everything is good. Bumping in and out of OD provides a little driver input for some one fidgety like me. It's no different than a manual in that I keep my hand on the floor shifter handle.
I dropped it off at the alignment shop since I detorqued the front torsion bars. One tire was out of alignment before hand, that was making it hard to drive.
I should have new rear shocks before the weekend. The rear blocks will be coming off.
My truck is almost back. Just in time to start hauling my junk to the new place.
