Need a cheap fix for my Diff

I recently was driving then my diff went out, and a shop then quoted me $5k roughly anyway for repairs on the diff saying I need a whole new rearend so I’ve been looking for options. I’ve been thinking of an explorer rear end assembly would that work? I don’t want to do any welding if possible from what I’ve heard an explorer from a similar year should just bolt right up.
currently in the truck is a 7.5 3.73 ratio

Just crab another axle from a ranger that has the same ratio.

Yep junkyard. Plenty of Rangers. Maybe youll score a 8.8 ranger rear end with 3.73!

www.car-part.com

Call first and verify they have what you need in stock, most of these places dont update this website.

Get one from a junkyard and swap it yourself. Rear end swap is one of the easiest "big" jobs on a vehicle. Hell even if you gotta buy some tools to make it happen you're still saving 99% over paying that shop, 5K is a total scam.

Explorer rear end will not work without some cutting and welding.

that’s what I’ve been looking for but in my area I haven’t found any under $700 so it’s tough I’ve found one on FB marketplace but the seller currently has a buyer set up already

yeah from the research I’ve done it’s all said that. And the shop said $5k as a rough quote because of the labor they’d be doing on the vehicle and also the other issues with it. Which are replacing the drive shaft, breaks, exhaust (someone stole my cats and the rest of the exhaust all the way back) and I believe a new rear right tire due to my diff locking up and dragging the tire causing it to have bald spots and making the tire basically ruined. Thank you for the help though!

Oh I see more stuff then just the diff. You can use an 8.8 3.73 diff too, the brake drums are larger but other then that no difference. Not sure why they made two sizes. Heavier duty or some BS. Shoot I got a 7.5 4.10 rear end siting around but I'm far away from you in GA.
