Needing Some Help.

Ok, so as most of you know I have had a SAS done to my truck. However, I'm not 4x4...yet.

What do I need tranny wise/t-case to get my truck closer to being 4wd? Any suggestions? I know for the t-case I'm going to use a manual one, but which one I'm not sure of yet...discuss

The BW 1350 and BW 1354 transfer cases should bolt up to late model Ranger 4x4 transmissions. Either is available in manual and automatic versions.

The 1354 is the newer and stronger T/C and it would be my choice behind a 4.0L.

Easiest transmission to use would be another 5R55E transmission like you have now. You can either buy a 4x4 transmission or your 2WD tranny can be converted. I believe that a complete disassembly is required to change the output shaft and extension housing to make it into a 4x4 box.

What would be the easiest in your perspective Bob? And if I wanted to 'convert' mine, how would I go about doing that?

Yea, I talked to him about it. It's an electronic t-case & the motor I think he said needs replacing & that's not what I'm looking for.

He does, but that's for the 4.0 OHV, I'm not sure if it'll bolt up to my SOHC. And I'm wanting something a lil newer.

That's a 4 speed A4LD. Even if it will fit, there's no way it will work with your 2001 PCM.

I don't have personal experience working on a 5R55E but I have heard that it requires a complete teardown of the transmission to change the parts. If that's the case, then you definitely do not want to do it yourself.

If you think that your current transmission is in good shape, maybe it would be OK to have it professionally converted by a reputable shop.

On the other hand, you could try to locate a 5R55E 4x4 transmission and bolt it in. One that is already rebuilt would be very expensive but buying a used junkyard automatic is always risky. If you get a bad electronically controlled unit like the 5R55E, it can literally cost thousands to have it repaired.

I guess I'm just going to take a try at a JY one. I know that all the tranny shops around here will charge out the *** for anything like that.
