new rear end breaks dont match
new rear end breaks dont match
I replaced my old worn out air bags with new bags from Suspension Connection.
2 days later my rear end went out. Off to pick and pull $200 for a used rear end.
pulled out my busted unit and set it beside the salvaged one.
the only difference that i noticed was the breaks. tried my drum on the break assembly of the salvaged unit and it was too big.
my truck is a 2005 XLT, the truck i salvaged the rear end out of was a 2004 XL. both are manual transmissions
i need some advice here . what is my best plan of action

ok so i'v watched some youtube and gained some knowledge on swapping breaks so that i have my breaks back on my truck. Ill need new seals and a gasket for the differential plate. Do i need to install new bearings too?
Rangers used both 9" and 10" rear brakes, which you have now seen, extended cab and 4WD tended to get 10", nothing wrong with 9"
If you have the cover off its not too hard to pull the axles and install new seals(always a good idea), bearings are a judgement call, have a look at the axle shafts for wear
New bearings won't hurt and they are not expensive
Ford never used a gasket on cover plate, just RTV, but you can get gaskets for it now

Thanks RonD. Im going to put my 10" breaks onto my new (salvaged) rear end.
They are both 7.5 with 373 gears. In order to do so I have to pull the axles out so I will inspect the bearings and replace the seals.
Thank you for your input. Always nice to hear from an expert.
