Normal or not?

I've got an 07 Ranger 4 cylinder with an auto trans and with my old vehicles and even my dad's new 07 F150, when you let off the gas the RPM's drop to idle. My Ranger, doesn't do that...If it did it'd roll better and I'd get better mileage, its just too much drag, is this normal or is there a remedy?
