whats the shaft look like?

if the shaft is not smooth it will tear that new seal up..

getting sand and dirt in there? what about a bent axle shaft?

shaft LOOKS fine anyways..slow leaks was told backing plate rusts and leaks out there.. supposed to be an easy fix to change ( my friend changed it the first time with aftermarket seal) wondering if this is something better off paying stealership to repair? if go that route definitely not saying already tried changing seal once already...definitely will try and rape me then! there was no noticeable damage to the orginal seals changed them both already

How is the axle bearing? If the bearing is bad causing the shaft to move around it will destroy all the seals you put in it. Also like Zach said check the condition of the axle surface where the seal rides. If it is grooved bad it will still leak with a new seal.

my drivers side just started leaking, but i do have a 14 y/o truck so im not really surprized. make sure your vent tube aint closed off, if it cant vent, it will force a seal leak somewhere. my pinion seal leaks some too.
