question about axle

a local junkyard has an axle from i think a 98 ranger with 4.10 gears for 200 dollars and i was wondering is it a direct bolt on. i have a 94 ranger with just 3.43 gears

yes.. any ranger axle is a direct bolt in...$200 isn't a bad price either.. sure as hell alot cheaper than regearing your current axle..

^^^ yeah but an explorer axle is a little more work but a hell of a lot better axle. disc brakes and more than likely a limited slip and 31 spline.

x2

I would go this route so that you are never wanting more out of your axle.

Not all Ranger axles are the same width...Axle Width Differences:

People have asked about the widths of axle shafts to swap shafts from one axle to another.

The early 1983-1992 Ranger axles are 1" shorter than the 1993-up pieces. (Both sides) meaning that the an entire Ranger axle assembly from 1993-up is 2-inches wider than 1983-1992.

From here, a good source of info...

you are correct the explorer axle is 1.5 inches wider each side than 93 plus rangers and 3 inches wider on each side than the 92 down rangers.

if you have any welding skills or fab skills at all put in an explorer axle. it a pretty straight forward swap

It was cheaper for me to find an explorer axle and install it than find a ranger axle with the right gears
