Icon9 Reaf Diff Noise

Hello,

I'm having an issue with (I'm 89% sure) my rear differential. When I'm on the gas I get no noise, but when I let off or in neutral (its a manual) I get what sounds like either grinding gears or a badly worn bearing. It has plenty of oil in it and doesn't leak. Just really wanting to know if its a serious thing or if it will just be an annoyance. I'm not worried about it right now because it only does it when its not under load, but that may change depending on responses!

Thanks!

Check you UV joints first.
Block up the front wheels and raise the rear so that both tires are up off the ground.
Set the park brake.
Put it in neutral and see if there is any play in the drive shaft where the UV joints _ there should be none.

To check differential.
Release the park brake and leave it neutral.
Have a friend hold one rear wheel solid while you check for play on the other wheel.
There will be some, but should not be excessive.
Also listen for any bad clunking sounds from the dif while doing this.
