Rear Axle swap.

Maybe I didn't search good enough?

I was wonderin'. Can I use a 4x4 Ranger Axle as long as years don't conflict? IE, 98-99, etc? I'm not really sure when the cut off is as far as the donors go. Or can I only use an Explorer one? I'm lookin' for LS, 4.10. I just need to know what to look for when I go scrounging for one.

Also. Does it matter what gear my rear axle is, or can I totally just drop mine and put in the new one with new gears? Thanks!

pretty much 1980's-08 will swap just fine...

for that gear and L/S ratio most 4x4 4.0L 01+ have those.. thats your best bet

if its 4wd then you will need the same gear ratio as the front.

if your looking for a easy upgrade then i would try to find a 8.8 out of a newer edge or 4x4.
Truck Specs:
98 Ford Ranger XLT v6 3.0 4x2
he doesnt have to worry about the front... atleast not yet if he does a conversion then ya

if I were you, I would grab me an axle out of a '01+ Ranger 4x4 4.0 like Stone said......they usually come with a 4.10 gear ratio....

follow this guide to find the gear ratio you want.......all you have to do is look at the "Safety Certification" sticker on the drivers door to find the code....

Is an Explorer rear not an option? If so, what would you recommend?

an Explorer axle is an option, BUT you will need some fab skills/tools to do it....there is some welding involved and some brake line issues that needs to be resolved with the Explorer axle...

I have 4.10 gears and stock Ranger l/s for sale. Why are you looking for a whole axle when it sounds like you only want the gears and L/S?

Ahhh, my bad. I do have the whole stock axle, but you would need to reinstall the gears and L/S. Also, I had to cut off the shock mounts, so those will need to be replaced. If you buy the gears and L/S, you can have everything else free, but we would need to talk about pick-up.

On another note, I just did a Explorer Axle swap. Wasnt that had as long as you know how to weld or know somebody that does.

any RANGER axle from 93 to now will be a bolt in swap for you. Older than 93 and they are narrower.
