Replacing the rearend

I just need a second opinion on this to make sure I don't pick up something that doesn't work. My rearend is obviously going to die soon so I'm looking at scrap yards to find a replacement.

My tag is:
S370S
373 75 9E26

So 7.5" 3.73 gears, open diff

I found info at the rangerstation here

My question is, am I right that any 7.5 from 98-09 with be a straight swap? My luck everything will be right except the perches will be a 1/2" off.

Yes, 1998 to 2011 actually since you can use 7.5" or 8.8" from a Ranger and it will be plug and play

And Limited Slip(L/S) is a very good option

It will have the L in the ratio

i.e. 3L73 75 = 3.73 ratio Limited slip 7.5"
or
3L73 88 = 3.73 ratio Limited slip 8.8"

Dino Mite.

That's great news. I feel confident now shopping at scrap and crap. Now I just need to find someone with a torch so I don't need to dick with those u-bolts.

Thanks Ron.

Check the rear leaf spring hangers, they rust out on all brands of pickups

And you need a torch or grinder to remove hanger rivets, so.............
Run water in the bed above where you are using the torch or you WILL blister the paint

You use the Explorer axle cables connected to the Rangers single cable coming from the brake pedal assembly

So it is Ranger back to Equalizer then Explorer to each brake drum.

Rear disc brakes use different cables but still Ranger to Equalizer then Explorer to e-brake in wheel

If Ranger cable is too long get a Dorman 03006 to shorten it
