Should i regear?

Hey guys,

I'm a complete noob when it comes to gearing.. I have a 2005 ranger edge. Haven't changed my gearing but just recently got some 285/75/16 Toyo A/T's. It seems acceleration has decreased a little but not too much compared to my stock tires, obviously with bigger tires i expect that. So my question is should i re-gear and if so what to?

THX

I'd go with 4.56 gears.

4.0? Edge? You either have 3.73's or 4.10's. Either way, you're fine. If you ever go to a bigger tire, then yea you might want to regear. But for now you're fine.

HE very most likely has 4.10s. I think his tires might be 33s?

Yea he has 33's. He has the same size tires as me. I have a 4.0 with 4.10's and 33's with a tuner and it feels about the same as stock now. The tires and tuner kind of evened each other out.

4.10's are fine, but any higher and I think it would be worth the swap.

Agreed. Plus with him being 2wd he could swap gears for so much cheaper.

So you have a 4.0L, what transmission?
Generally 4.30s or 4.56 gears would be best. It doesn't help that you have 16" wheels and tires which are normally a lot heavier than 15s. The extra rolling mass kills performance a lot.
