Spline count.

Spline count.

So does spline count matter like does it have to match or can you use a 28 sline count on a diff that was a 31 or how does that work. thanks Im dumb

Yes it matters, you can't use 21 spline gears with 31 spline shafts, etc.

so the 31 is whats on the shaft and 21 in the gear. I just got an 06 front diff but i have a 99 truck are the splines in front of the 99 the same as the 06. are the front spline counts for all years the same. thank you.

Crap I screwed that up, you can't use 28 spline gears with 31 spline shafts, etc. You have to use 28 spline gears with 28 shafts, etc.

The front diffs are the same for both years, spline count doesn't matter. I thought you were talking rear diffs originally.

I understand. And my bad i should have made it more clear. I pulled the front diff from the 06 today but I didnt keep the CV's becuase I figured I could just use my same ones. thank you

Yeah if theres nothing wrong with your stockers you should be fine.

No they are fine I'm just regearing. So in the back spline what's better 28 Or 31?

31 spline is stronger but unless you find one out of a 02 FX4 or 03-06 level II you'll have to get one out of an expo which will require having someone cut off and reweld the shock mounts and spring perches. But you can also get disc brakes with the expo axle too.

Ok I don't know what type of ranger my axle came off of because it was used for parts and it was just a frame engine and drive train. I don't know what my stock axle had. One one more thing dose anyone make a limited slip for the front and if no what's the best locker up front or best price.

Aussie makes a locker up front, I think a lot of guys goes with that one.
