Swap from 2wd to 4wd

Hi, I just bought a 1997 V6 auto 2wd. I wanted to know if it would be possible, read not cost prohibitive, to swap drivetrain parts from a 4wd truck onto mine along the road. If so what would I need ?

I didn't buy it to do offroad with it but if it could be done relatively cheap, I'd seriously consider it.

Thanks, all and great forum !

Ok I only know a little bit about the older Rangers so if this is completly wrong I apoligize. I think you have the I-beam suspension, where as the 4x4s have the TTB suspension. To do this swap you would have to convert your entire front suspension, get a 4wd tranny, transfer case, etc. I don't think it would be really cost effective.

you need the front frame cross member it is kinda intense on the older trucks.

TheRangerStation.com has info on it.
