Tranny Problems! Help

Ughh, this is really bothering me, for some reason when i put by truck into drive it sits there as if its in neutral but has a bit of pull, when i try to drive itll take awhile and maybe top out at 30 km and reving high. But if i change gears by going from 2nd then into drive its fine, i dont get it! but i dont feel a tug or anything or a change from 2nd to drive, does that mean im practically just driving in 2nd? someone please help me, i hope my tranny isnt shot, everything else seems good

Do some research on this site re:trans problems.
There are a few possible fixes.
One is a band adjustment and the other is a seal replacement (cheap fix).

Not meaning to be a ***** , but the search button at the top of the pane is there for a reason.
Use it , embrace it , it is your friend .

ok when i had my tranny redone i wouldnt get drive, i needed to bump up into 2 then back to drive before it went into gear. it would creep forward in drive and sometimes in neutral. but was really unresponsive with throttle. reverse was also screwed up, as it would go into gear but it would also fight to drive forward. it turned out i had big cross leaks in the valve body, you may need a new one if you have a small leak or crack in it... mine also drove fine in 2nd and other gears but drive and reverse were messy

another area to check would be the gear selector cable or shift, but it defeniately sounds like a valve body replacement to me..

take it to a trans shop and they can probably diagnose it, its apparently fairly common as raised pressure or having a heavy a foot on the gas can cause a hairline crack or blow out in a port of the valve body. a shift kit would help prevent it, but it could also just be the gasket leaking thats on it, just as much as it could be the valve body damage. there is no way to really guess with trans issues so take it to a pro who can quickly diagnose it ..

The valve body separator plate gasket is whats known for breaking and leaking. take it somewhere and have it diagnosed, probably a dealer where they have the updated parts and the tools to diagnose it
