what's messed up on it?

if it is just the boot, there is one guy that sells them on the east coast. it is in my email somewhere.

Edit: email was easier to find than I thought...and it was northwest coast...:)
We have that CV joint in stock they run about $125.00 plus freight and applicable tax. We also have some in a different brand that run about $70.00 plus freight and tax they will be in stock next week.

If we can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank You,
Have A Great Day!

blhde, you looking at half shafts or the front drive shaft?? half shafts are 60 bucks at rock auto... Autozone didn't have a rebuild kit, but O'Reilly has a Dorman kit for $130 (P/N: 932-201).

I found my rubber boot split while at my parents. When we went to take it off, the ball bearings fall out...don't let that happen. We are pretty sure they go back only one way! I thought I was going to have to go home without a front driveshaft! :D

I hear a clicking noise sort of like a chain sprocket, and the boot is busted and joint throwing grease. There is some play in the joint where shaft connects. I check everything i could think of that could cause this noise and this seems to be the culprit with the busted boot and grease slung out. How hard is it to change anybody know ? Could the end of the driveshaft be damaged are there splines? A rebuilt shaft with the cv joint is 250 at O'Reilys

When I worked on my front driveshaft, I had the advantage of a lift. But the driveshaft comes off with 6 bolts on the CV side, other side has u-joints. That'll get the whole shaft out. To get the CV joint off, the cap will need to come off with some taps of a screwdriver and hammer. Then there will be a snap ring holding the inner part of the joint to the shaft. Take the snap ring off and the joint slides off the shaft. Remove the boot. Install in reverse. **If you do the rebuild, do not let the ball bearings come out of the joint!!! If you do, make real sure you know how the inner and outer pieces of the joint are oriented!** We patched my boot back up with some sort of silicone goo and in the process the joint fell apart. Took us 2hrs of trying different combinations before we got it back together correctly.

I'd go with the rebuild kit and get some u-joints for the other side of the drives haft, depending on how many miles you have on it. I did mine at 165k miles and my u-joints started to get some divots.

Bleh I need to stop reading this stuff in the early AM.

2003 FORD RANGER CV Joint

This is the cv for the front drive shaft. They have ujoints too for 15 bucks or less. I would recommend a strap kit, the stock torx stuff can get stripped if they are rusty.

You can call a drive-line shop and they can rebuild it for you. I bet your looking at 200-250 for them to do the work.

doh! totally missed that on rock auto. I was looking for some kind of kit I guess. good to know if my patch doesn't work.

kind of a side topic, on a 01+ that are non-pvh, your front shaft spins all the time right?? I know mine with pvh are stationary in 2WD, so that boot doesn't get much movement most of the year. I wonder what is better for it, moving around or not...

On a non live axle truck the drive shaft should not see much use. IE 98-00 4wd PVH trucks.

When I did my trans swap, I inadvertently disassemble the cv. I must have had missed a bearing as it felt like a rock crusher under my seat. It was 3 months before I used 4wd, I had no idea I messed the the shaft. I ended up getting a used shaft from the boards here.
