Tranny slipping o rbucking at certain speed??

I have a 01 Ranger an it shifts great! But at about 40 it feels like it's slipping or something. Didn't know if this was a symptom or an indication that it was going bad! At about 40 it feels like it's shifting in an out of gear. Not hard, just a little bit! At any other speed it doesn't do it at all but on my road home which is like 3 miles long an the mph is 40 an that's when I started noticing it. My buddy has an 00 or 02 Taurus an he says his does the same! Is this just a flaw or is this a sign that something worse is gonna go wrong down the road?? Please any help or Ideas would be great!! Tried flushing twice at different intervals, tried Lucas, an some other that's supposed to stop slippage. Thinking if a shift kit would fix the prob??

I have a late '99 with the EXACT same issue ... I'm interested in an answer to the same question.

That's about the speed it goes into overdrive, I would try adjusting the overdrive band. Mine is acting up also but I think I might have a bad valve body gasket.

Wvcat, thanks for the suggestion ... mine has the same symptom with or without the OD engaged. Any other ideas?

It could be the torque converter trying to lock up or a shift solonoid in the valve body sticking.
