I tried seraching but i couldnt find much. Where is the fill and drain plug on the transfer case. Its an 03 FX4. A hose in the front of it had came off while mudding and I want to try to drain and fill it in case mud and water got in there. Also what fluid do you put in?

 

ok I know that on the back there is a plug to the left of the drive shaft. I'm guessing there is a drain plug somewhere lower than that.

If its anything like my 01, there is no drain plug for either diff.

Here....on my '01.....You need to pull that rubber counterweight thingy off using a 13mm socket. Once that's off...BAM! there's the drain plug. Up top, mid body toward the right, is the fill hole. It uses a 3/8" rachet to take the plugs out. I used a 3/8 rachet with a 3" extension. Mines painted pink. Be prepared to see some ugly **** brown stuff to drain out of it. I believe the book calls for ATF on our tcases. I run Royal Purple Synthetic in my crankcase, trans, tcase, rear end, powersteering, etc. Hope it helps.

AHHHH, thats why I could find the drain plug. What the hell is that black thing. My old transfer case didn't have one and this one does?

 

its some type of dampner for the tcase. I'll find out today when I whip out the chiltons.

 

its a dampener, but doesnt really do anything, ive never heard of anyone who ever took it off having problems.

 

today i was trying to just climb up a little rock about 6 inches high and if it was in 4 low and i was giving it gentle throttle you could hear and feel something click almost *** if it wasnt in gear or something and it was slipping in..any idea's it wouldnt do it in 4 high or 2

 

i just put in 4lo just normal driving down the street. When ur just putsing along not giving it gas it doesnt do anything but when you give it throttle the clanks so i change the sound from like its slipping to a clunk/clank when giving it throttle in 4lo
