transfercase problem

I split the case on my new manual transfercase that will not work. I looked at it and im not able to tell if it is bad. What should I look for? The chain looks like it is good, just a little bit loose. I put the transfercase in my truck and my truck just wouldnt move. What could be the problem. I just want to make sure that the transfercase is bad before i go and spend 150 on another one.

That's alot of work for nothing. Like Downey said was it in gear? I know my linkage is all kinds of worn and take some finagling to get it into the gears I want.

Ya the linkage is a ***** to get right. If you can't get it in 2wd just go underneath and move the arm yourself till you get new improved ****ty linkage.
