Transmission problem
Transmission problem
94 ranger want go in gear without revving the motor up several times after it goes in gear no problems shifts fine no slipping. Always goes in reverse. Replaced fluid, filter and speed sensor. No codes showing. Any suggestions

Assuming an Automatic Transmission?
A4LD would be the model in a 1994 Ranger
Only has 2 solenoids, 3/4 shift and TC Lockup
Reads like you have low pressure
All automatics engage and work based on fluid pressure
That pressure comes from a pump at the front of transmission that is connected directly to the torque converter
Torque Converter spins at engine RPMs, so REVing the engine increases pump speed and pressure inside transmission
There are pressure test ports on the outside of transmissions, to see if thats the issue, need a gauge that can go up to 400psi
Reverse requires a higher pressure than Forward, which is why pressure issues effect Reverse first
You can often remove and rebuild the Valve Body to get pressure back
If forward engages faster if you shift to 1st then a one-way clutch(sprag) is bad, this requires transmission removal and a full rebuild to replace that part
Automatic transmissions have many interdependent systems, so are much harder to diagnose than an engine issue, just FYI
