Transmission Problems?

I think my trans is starting to act up. In the morning it takes a longer than I would consider normal to shift into od and they are not cold mornings here in AZ. The trans also to me is running a little hotter at about 170* during normal operation. This is a reading off of my scan gauge. It flunctuates from about 156-176* during normal operation.

The big question is is if the trans is going to last on the 1700 mile trip back to Indiana pulling a 6x12 trailer loaded down with all of my things.

Anyone have any information? And yes I know to stay out of od and to be honest I doubt the trans will go into od pulling a trailer.

At what temp does it become a necessity to slow down as to not over heat or damage the trans?

This is an auto trans out of a 2002 ranger 4x4 xlt.

How many miles on your trans? And when was it serviced last. I would think you want it 140* or lower for max life. Of course if you tow a lot, its gonna wear out sooner. Towing= heat in trans.
