weird noise when in 4-hi

So i had my truck in 4 hi tonite coming home from work in the snow. I noticed kinda of like a rubbing sound only when i hit the gas coming from the front. As i said its only when its in 4-hi. Any suggestions on where to start? BTW its a 2001 ford ranger edge 4x4. Thanks

could be a number of things.

can you specify he area better? front left right? under your seat? what speed?

it will normally always make a few more sounds while in 4wd.

well its just a sound no vibration atleast yet... It sounds like its coming from right underneath my seat. It does it at all speeds which scares me. See in the spring i got out of a mud pit and it was stuck in 4-lo it wouldn't come out so i had to take the fuse out to disengage the 4 wd put the fuse back and it worked fine. But thats when it started. Thanks look forward to the input.

Does its frequency/pitch change with speed? Loud? Quiet? Varies? Does it sound like metal rubbing on metal? Rubber rubbing on plastic?

Have you checked your fluids? If you got stuck badly you may have some gunk in your fluids (tcase, tranny, differential, etc)

Seems normal to make a little noise with the tranfer case engaged. Mine makes a little nosie when I step on the gas in 4x4 also. Just sounds like extra drivetrain noise I guess, if that makes any sense. It isn't loud or disconcerning. As long as it doesn't sounds like metal on metal action or grinding or anything it's probably normal.

Ya i wasn't sure i'm not too concerned about it but i want to explore my options to be sure nothing horrible is going to happen. As far as checking fluids i did all that after i got home from muddin. However i'm not familiar with t-case fluids, someone give me some pointers? Thanks

on the t-case there is a fill plug, pull taht plug (near the shift motor on the rear side) and the fluid should be to the bottom of the hole, if not, drail the fluid and fill with synthetic ATC
