when to add tranny fluid

I have a 2008 3 liter, v6 automatic extended cab XLT with about 5500 miles on it. I usually check my tranny fluid once a month or two. This morning I got stuck in the driveway and it was 5:30 in the morning. I spun my tires and really thought I wouldn't get out. After rocking it between Reverse and Drive and going nowhere I put the vehicle in 2nd and still went nowhere. I then used 1st and started to slide enough so I gently as I could put the vehicle in reverse and was able to get out. Obviously I had to rev the RPM's a bit and I noticed the vehicle ran a little rougher but not much. On the way home it still seemed a little rough. I checked the fluid and I was in the hashmark in the middle. Last week or so I was at full. Should I add a little or wait?? Thanks in advance.

you need to check your fluid when it the fluid is warm. Under load, and in park/neutral.

I would check it with the engine warm, in park. You cant check it with the truck off like you would engine oil. 5500 miles I wouldnt even worry about it. You only change fluid 15-30k miles, then I would check it, other wise on an 08 ur ok.

I did. I work twenty-two miles from home. It usually takes me 30-35 minutes. Today, there was wicked traffic and I was stuck for 1 hour. The vehicle was warm and when I pulled into the gas station under light, I pulled the dip stick, wiped it off, put it in, and when I pulled it up and checked -- it was clean but only in the middle hash. The vehicle was running and in park.

Thanks Thomas. I appreciate it. I wasn't too worried, but I wanted to double check. I've never owned a new vehicle before and I want to treat her nice.
