O/D button operation.

The O/D on/off button on my 02 does not work. Since I work at a auto shop I can get the whole shifter assembly for about 50 bucks. I was wondering though how the button works. Is it an on/off switch or a momentary on/off switch that is normally open? I'm guess it is momentary normally open. When you hit the button it sends source voltage to the trans and kicks the OD off.

I thought maybe I could just cut the wires inside the column and run them down to a different button if the problem is in the switch.
