Ok, I am looking in a new direction now. I found a zf 542 transmission for a 4x4. I was told the overall length of the transmission is 29 inches longer than my c4 in my 83 ranger 4x4. The zf will bolt strait to my 302 installed in the ranger but how about the transfer case? I dont know what transfer case it is (can't find any markings on it) but it mates to my c4. I know I will need different drive shafts to run the zf, but the extra gear and over drive would be great on the highway and the truck isn't going to see the strip so the c4 seems to just be hurting my gas milage. If anyone had any input for me that would be great. Also the truck was a factory 5 speed so putting the parts back in for the hydraulic clutch is no problem. Thanks
