Mirrors - Mountaineer vs Ranger

What year Mountaineer Mirrors look like the Ranger Mirrors ?

I was looking on line and can get Heated Signal Mirrors for a mountaineer but not for a Ranger.

Would be nice to have heated mirrors.

Thks,

A complete Ex/Mountie mirror assembly will not fit a Ranger because of the different shape of the triangular mount. Some power mirror parts will interchange though. Manual mirrors are very different inside and the manual parts generally do not interchange with power mirror parts.

I have factory 2002 Mountaineer heated glass inserts in my factory 2003 Ranger mirror bodies. I believe that 2002~2005 Ex/Mountie power mirror glass fits the 2002~2005 Ranger power mirror body. The factory parts snap right in but that doesn't necessarily mean that an aftermarket glass would interchange.

Some owners have also had success disconnecting the folding part of the factory mirror from the triangular mount and swapping over to a Ranger mount to install the Ex mirrors. I haven't done that myself though.

Another way to get heated signal mirrors is to buy an aftermarket Ranger kit from Muth. Not cheap though.

I’m BAD !
I didn’t state what years I was interested in.
I was thinking my 2003 but didn’t pu tit down.

So a 2002-2005 Mountie will glass will work in a 2001-2003 Ranger pwrd mirror housing, nice enough.

I have never thought about the Mountie Mirrors, I will need to look at them when I go to the JY again.

Thanks

Haven’t got the glass yet but was thinking… is there a way to tell a Mountaineer Heated mirror vs a std one without taking the glass out ?

My heated mirrors have a "defrost" symbol etched into the glass, something like this:

Not sure what you're asking. Rangers have never had heated mirrors from the factory. The glass mirror inserts that are in my Ranger now are stock 2002~2005 Mountaineer/Explorer and they came with the "defrost" icons.

Yes, you are right, I didn’t think… you added the Heat ?

How much trouble was it to add the harness, did you use an OEM setup ?

I was looking at the Muth setup for heat and signals but was thinking if there was something stock I might consider it.

Thanks Bob, always good talking to you.

I tried to connect everything through the stock 03 Ranger GEM as if the mirrors were the rear window defroster in a Gen II Explorer (95~01). That didn't work though, either because the Ranger GEM is not EOL programmed for rear window defrost or maybe it just doesn't have the capability.

My next attempt will be to use a pre-GEM Explorer (91~94) defrost switch that has the timing circuit and relay built in. I have had the switch for a year or so and I'll get around to trying it eventually.

I suppose that the barebones approach would be to just install an on/off switch and an indicator light but I want to use the factory setup with auto-off timer.

i couldn’t find any Mountaineer Mirror with Heat but did locate a set of Ex Sport Pwrd w/Puddle Lights and a set of 2002 Ranger Pwrd Mirrors.
The Ranger are the Nicer Units and will probably use them after installing the Muth Heated/Directional Glass Units.
This will be the most costly setup but should be OK.

Thanks for the assist.

I saw a 06+ Mountaineer with 06+ looking Ranger lights but had the courtesy lights. Would the switching the assembly's onto Ranger mounts work on 06+ mirrors like it works on the pre-06 mirrors.

Muth is a company that makes aftermarket mirror insert kits with turn signals and heat. They list the same kits for both 2006's so the glass inserts on the factory mirrors should interchange too.

Since the “Master” can’t get it to work I am going to use the Muth Electronics for the heat, the directionals will be wired directly to the directional wires and the only problem will be the mirror movement, I will need to figure out the wiring, i.e. pwr wire, directional movement.
I am hoping it will be an easy wire up, LoL.

Over $200 for glass w/wiring kits but I am hoping it will eliminate the wiring hassle.

Now to get the shop cleaned out so I can get the Ranger in, did I hear someone wanting to buy a Jeep ?
