Hey guys, Im new to the forum and just hope Im posting in the correct place. I have a ‘98 xlt 4x4 and Im faced with replacing the windowS, yep, ALL OF EM! Some *** decided my truck had 4 too many windows and decided to shoot (yeah, with a gun) em out! The windshield and sliding rear glasses are gonna be done by professional glass folks, but in the interest of saving some cash Im gonna try and tackle the doors myself. Im no mechanic, but i can turn a wrench. Anyone with any experience in this that



can give me some idea of the difficulty level, or any tips I may need?

The rear glass is very easy as its in a frame and just bolted in, 8 studs on the frame, 3 top, 3 bottom, 1 on each side, behind inside plastic trim panels

Door glass is not too hard
Remove door panel, of course, keep the crank or power window switch handy because you will need to move the window carrier up and down
The window itself is held by 2 bolts to the carrier, in 1998, earlier use rivets that had to be drilled out

There is a front and rear track for the window to slide up and down in, its adjustable you will see the nuts, loosen them
Old window is, of course, gone, bummer, get gloves and shop vac to clean out the door

New window goes in at a front down angle to get it positioned in both side tracks
You need a hand inside the door and one lowering glass in, can be done by one man, two can be easier

Temper glass is very strong on the flat surface, its very very weak on the edge, it will shatter if an edge is pressed against metal very hard, "poof" a million pieces
