need help on re painting a tool box

so the guy before me painted the tool box black and ive had it for awhile and alot of it has chipped off , so to re paint it black will i have to sand it all back down? . or can i get as much of the lose paint off and re paint.and whats the best paint that would stick

I'd sand it down real good first. That's why the paint chipped off in the first place, poor prep.

id say it depends, is it diamond plate? mine was and i didnt sand i just put about 2 coats of good primer then about 4 black coats

I have an aluminum diamond plate tailgate cap thing. I sanded and scuffed the life out of it, primed and painted it. No problems, except when concrete blocks slide across it lol.

Prep work. Do it good.
