Need opinions on grille.

So I have the wiring harness installed for a set of PIAA 540's in my truck all ready. Ideally I would like to mount the lights behind the grille to keep them safe, can't afford to build the bumper I want, etc, etc.

The idea I like the most I think is to try and find and STX grille and mount them behind as one other member I've seen has. Or do I go with a billet grille?

I'm having trouble picturing it and deciding what I like best. How do the people with the lights behind a grille find the light distribution? Do you have any pics?

Either would work. Billet grilles are cheaper if that's a concern.

Ya I really can't decide. The STX on your truck looks sharp. Do you know if its possible to mount the larger Ford logo onto a STX easily?

you could also use the 04-05 honeycomb for the xlt. I doubt a larger emblem on the stx would look that great. And last the light distribution is just like having the lights in front of the grille. no difference that i have noticed

So I emailed Carriage Works to try and find out what surround I needed to use their Black Billet grille. He was no use, Surprise!

So, I am thinking of using a black carriage works billet grille. What surround do I need? Will I have to cut anything (Cutting plastic always looks crappy)? Can you buy just the surround or shell as he calls it?

youll have to find either A.) buy a 2 piece grill which i think for your north of the border folk will cost you around $100 or B.) find one in the junk yard. Thats my take on it.

ie. the honeycomb looking grill is a two piece. With a two piece grille I will not have to do any cutting? Just pop the two pieces apart and the billet will fit in or you have to drill a couple holes or something? Do you know if anyone has any pictures of this mod, Vista?

Which billet grille has the thickest horizontal bars? I want something that looks more solidly built and not crazy see through like the T-rex grille or whatever.
