I just did mine last week. Turned out good. Painted all of it black (Krylon Fusion).
I took all of the plastic pieces off, sanded with a grinder sanding wheel, and painted away.
i will post pics when i get a chance

here are some attachments. i always have trouble with photobucket.
The bars need washing...well the TRUCK needs washing. Some quick pictures.
I also included a picture of the bed rails, which i painted the same way as the bars.

Nice step bars and bed rails ... I'm looking for a chrome set like that for my truck. (bed rails too)
What year did they start making those? (Octagon pattern on top) I know the 04 and 05 Ranger have them.

Not sure about what year they started making them. Try looking aournd at dealerships or junkyards. You might find some.
I noticed today that some of my paint chipped off where i am stepping on them. This is tempting me to look for some factory black ones.
