Paint in bed liner

So I have my bed liner that I want to put on. It is the type in the cans that you put on with a roller or brush.(forget the exact brand I have) So my question is, where does everyone stop painting on the sides of the bed and the inside of the tailgate? I was thinking of leaving the lip that hangs over the inside of the bed alone and start the bedliner under that. Does anyone have pics of what they did? Also what about the bolts for the bed. I do not want to paint over them bc i plan on a BL in the future. How did everyone mask them off so its clean? Again pics would help alot. Thanks!
