Four wheel drive conversion

Figured I’d toss this here because I’d be needing to do some fabrication.

88 Ranger 5 speed. Looking to swap it to four wheel drive, I can weld and I’m a licensed mechanic and I have access to a shop. In the next few weeks I’m going to try and SAS swap it. Few questions. Can I put a 4WD tailshaft/output and transfer case on my transmission? Yea I know I’m going to need driveshafts and the crossmembers but it’s a pretty straightforward swap if I convert it to SA and TTB right?

You'll need to change the output shaft of the transmission also , and that requires complete disassembly of the transmission.

Ive done rebuilds on Manuals before. Especially the M5, they’re simple.

but I figure I can SAS swap and toss a Tcase on and a DST and it’ll be good? Nothin else needed?

If you have a 2.9l engine you would be better off swapping in a 1990-1997 4.0l 4WD trans and transfer case
2.9l and 4.0l share the same block so newer M5R1 5-speed bolts on
Up thru 1997 transfer cases have the speedometer cable output which you need for a 1988 Ranger, 1998 and up do not
