Front Bumper build

Well I got bored today and started building my front bumper. I was originally going to build a plate bumper but I got lazy about going to get it, and didnt feel like buying plate when I had some steel here I could maybe use. Its pretty basic like my rear bumper but it should turn out ok. Still have to add my d-ring tabs and 2" receiver, plus I have to get some 3/8, or 1/2" plate for my mounts to the truck.

Here is the start, working on it again tomorrow so we'll see how far I can get.

Got the bumper removed,as well as the tow-hooks that I'll try and sell. I think I'll be making a new crossmember and chopn the horns off as well.

Here is the front all laid out

Got the angle cut into them that I wanted and tacked

got the bumper set up in about the spot where it will be. no sides on it yet.

put the sides on it. In the pics I dont have them flared out as much as I finally decided. Looks way better with them an 1" or two wider than the fenders at the angle the fenders are at. Also I still am going to cut and angle in them, so it will be about 2" on the end and taper down.

and just for the hell of it I set my lights on there to see what it will look like. They will be on a bar I can remove, and I havnt decided if I want to use 3 or 4.

I will be making the top boxed in towards the truck also. And I might cut in some holes for fog lights and hook them to the factory wireing/button.

Looks awesome!! You do some great work.

The only thing I would do is cut those angles in the middle "v" a little flatter so that you can raise it up some and match the grille.

thanks guys! Yeah I might, But I can only keep it so high, cause of my bodylift. The frame is already right at the bottom of the bumper, dont really wana deal with it being higher than the frame as far as mounting etc goes.

Yea you don't want it mounted that close to the grille anyways, need room for flexing.

Looks really good so far.

+1

If anyone here hasnt fully flexed out on the rear - if you raise the frame up and the bump stops start going higher and higher - if you flex it out and look at the front of your rig - youll notice the bumper tweaked off -- I've had mine over an inch off on the front doing this.. mihght go do it and take pictures if anyone is interested :-) So, keep it as low as it is!

You need to rubberize that front bumper methinks.. some of the RUbberized Undercoating from Napa woudl do perfect after its all painted up!

Not sure about the rubber coating. If I start scratching it up It will be easier to just rattle can black over it. I like putting that stuff on a cleaned up frame though
