have question on undercoating

welding in my floor pan on my 99 ranger, bought a quart of Duplicolor rust barrier and was gonna put that under the truck, I also need to do some body sealing, so would I do that before or after the rust barrier? And if anyone has any other suggestions for good undercoating let me know. my original plan was to prime the bare metal, seam seal, then undercoat if possible. I would just paint underneath but my welds aren't the greatest so I need something to fill gaps.

I've always put sealer on bare metal then primer with no issues.

I usually prime the metal, apply seam sealer and then top coat. And what ever you do, do not use a rubberized undercoating. If you want a tough durable under coating I would pick up a bottle of raptor liner and brush it on, its a 2k product, so it will undergo a chemical reaction and harden just like paint.

I got it body sealed and painted and ready for under coating I'll take a look at that stuff. I also read everywhere not to use rubberized so glad I read a bunch of that before I went out and bought a can

I'm about to embark on this same exact repair except the damage on mine is worse. Floor is totally rotted through. Was going to pay someone to fix it for $600-$700 but decided to try and tackle it myself with my trusty old harbor freight welder lol.
Do you have any other pics of your repair? Might give me the much needed extra motivation.

I'll see if I can dig out some more. Big thing I watched out for was when I overlapped the metal ( I didn't butt weld it) I cleaned it up really good and put weld thru primer where the pieces overlapped to protect from rust.
it's gonna take time but it's definently doable. I started off making a cardboard template of what I wanted because I also had to make the door seal metal since it was rotted too. So I did that and then I cut my pieces out with the template and welded them together as much as I could without it in the truck so it's easier to clean up. Then I welded it 100% to the old floor in the truck

Thanks! Appreciate the response.
Question how did you go about the clips for the black door molding that goes on the seam by the door? I'm assuming they were rusted away as well? I'd like to click the door molding back into place after its all done. Also is there a part number for those particular clips?

Sorry, i wasn't too clear. I was talking about the metal clips that run along the inside of the the molding that the floor trim clicks onto.
In my 04 it's the click on type.

You can kinda see them here, they're gold on the floor by the trim.
This is someone's pic I found here on the forums.
