Guys with BIG CB's 5spds, Heres my Install!
Well for christmas I got a Cobra29 wx which is a huge CB with all the bells and whistles. having a 5spd I knew it was going to be harder to find a fuctional place (dont like it above my head) without really being able to see it.. At first I istalled it by my ash tray which was out of the way but touched the gear shifter in 5th. I had it mounted with small self tapping screws which really didnt grab anything under the dash, But it worked.
Riding out to my land today it fell off the mount so I desided find a better place for it.
Heres what I did, Drank 2 diet Mt Dews then I took the ashtray and airbag mount out. I think it was 4 screws total. Snaped the airbag switch off the mount and put it up in the dash. I can still get to it by just removing the CB from the mount if need be.
I used zipties from the top screw holes (frame) and wrapped it around the CB mount. I didnt tightin them untill all the zipties were ran. After about 3 or 4 zipties it is tight. Looks alot better and it is really snug. Its so snug the hardest part is lineing the CB back up with the cb mount holes. Sort of like having sex in complete dark halfway asleeep. Hope this helps somebody out.

It was made from bits of scraps I had laying around. Faceplate and main support was pine. The frame was made from balsa wood. The cover was some fiber based paper from a craft store and tacked it together with hot glue. The mounting brackets were made out of some old hacksaw blades. Hardest part was sanding the fiberglass, had to do it by hand. Took about 3 weekends from start to finish.

i had a cobra 25 ltd classic that was stolen out of my 1st ranger, since then i dont have a c.b. in the truck unless im going on a trip and then its a small unit with a cig power adaptor and mag-mount anttenna. its sure better than forgetting youve got a K40 on the roof and go "clanging" through the drive-thru!

I remember the day when they made whip clips i have yet to see them anymore. right now I just fold it over on the rack on my shell. It works out ok but when it starts wave side to side the tip smacks the cab so all I hear is tick tick tick so its at the point, its stainless 1mph in a drive through wont hurt it really.
Maybe im just lazy to find another way, I have thought of fishing line and pull it in when i go in the drive-thu

Mine is in the center of the roof between the domelight and my overhead console. I ran an extended microphone cord down to the dash so the microphone still sits in the dash. It used to come detached during offroading and whack me in the head when I hung the mic on the radio on the roof, lol.

Yeah, they don't have much out there anymore. When I tried to find a couple of heavy duty stepped insulated washers to mount the spring, couldn't find any. Finally ran across a company in Arkansas that makes them but they don’t sell to the public, they were nice enough to send me some samples though.
I keep the whip tied down with a piece of para cord hooked to one of those plastic stick-on clips on the cab (painted to match) and the other end looped through a piece of soft rubber that loops over the antenna. Just pull the cord end and up it goes...
I had the same problem with the tip tapping the cab, so I stuck a small Styrofoam ball on the tip.

Yeah, I want to be able to Switch the Air bag on and off though. Isnt Uniden and Cobra relativaly the same thing? Pretty close to the quality, correct?
