Icon7 The 2022 Maverick

Hey Folks!

So I've grown a bit attached to my 2002 Ford Ranger over the 13 years I've owned it (the damn thing is a trooper for being 20 years old!), but it's getting a bit long in the tooth and I'm sorely tempted to finally go looking for a second vehicle or possible outright replacement especially since I'm just limited to doing maintenance work in my apartment complex's parking lot. Anyway, my brother pointed me to this article on Jalopnik talking about the 2022 Maverick and what really caught my eye is the fact Ford is finally getting back into the smaller pick-up market again (although this is more like cross-over with a truck bed) and they are offering it in a Hybrid not to mention an affordable entry point.

I don't go off road and the majority of my driving is in the city and on paved roads, so I am not that interested in the AWD model gas only model.

I tried looking to see if they are carrying any of these in my area yet, but it seems only the non-hybrid models are being carried at the dealerships here. It's a shame because I'm actually really excited about this little truck!

So what are your thoughts on the new Maverick line? I think Ford's on to something pretty cool here, and I would like to see more non-none sense affordable vehicles like the Maverick on the market in the future.

Maverick has gotten alot of pre-orders so seems to be something people want, and at a very good price, $20,000 bare bones

The Hybrid only comes in FWD with the CVT transmission which is an unknown factor for how many miles it will stand up to, but so far so good in other vehicles

The gas only comes with an 8-speed automatic, in FWD or AWD, the 8-speed is fairly new but works like all previous automatics, poorly, lol

Definitely a niche market vehicle, not a standard work pickup truck, but for many it could be an economical service truck
The Hybrid's 40MPG around town for even a small truck is nothing to sneeze at

The hybrid is an AWD? well that's cool! I thought it was just 2WD.

I can see how a small truck is a bit of a niche market considering that when most people need a truck they are likely going to spring for mid size or full size to take advantage of the extra cargo space and towing capacity, but I think Ford is on the right track by combining the niche markets of people who want a hybrid and people who want a small truck for some light hauling for home improvement or for hobbies. I feel like there is going to be a lot more overlap between those two kinds of buyers. Hell, I know I'm one of those buyers! Lol

I think I may go see if I can take one for a test drive to see how it handles and feels if I can manage to track down a hybrid model here. :D

I like the idea behind it, and have seen a couple out on the road, I wish it came in different cab/bed configurations but since it’s based on a crossover platform I see why it is the configuration it is. But a little truck that gets 40 mpg could prove popular where I live.
